Local Injections

Local anesthetic injections can cause some discomfort when the needle is inserted, but the pain should be limited to that initial needlestick if the injection is performed correctly.

Injections into joints (knee, hip, shoulder, wrist, etc.) are local injections. If you have a swollen or painful joint, symptoms can be relieved by injecting a local injection medication into the joint. Sometimes a local anesthetic (numbing medicine) in injected along with the steroid.
